{"id":4116,"date":"2023-10-26T16:16:45","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T19:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/?p=4116"},"modified":"2023-10-29T21:37:48","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T00:37:48","slug":"trip-down-carretera-austral-november-2023-day-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/archives\/4116","title":{"rendered":"Trip down Carretera Austral November 2023: Day 0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Thursday, 26 Oct &#8211; San Mart\u00edn de los Andes<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomorrow I start a short trip down the <em>Carretera Austral<\/em>, Chile&#8217;s Route 7, which runs southwards through Patagonia Puerto Montt to Villa O&#8217;Higgins, a distance of some 1,2225 kms (about 770 miles). I&#8217;ll be coming back through Argentina, on more familiar roads up the RN40 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1156\" height=\"778\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image.png 1156w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-768x517.png 768w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-446x300.png 446w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1156px) 100vw, 1156px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The road ahead is mostly tarmac (asphalt) with patches of gravel (ripio), and in the early stages three or four ferries (my route marked in red on the map below). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4119\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-1-768x998.png 768w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/image-1-231x300.png 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll be travelling in my SW4, freshly serviced, wheels balanced and aligned, tank full and boot packed with things I probably don&#8217;t need, won&#8217;t use but it&#8217;s good to have. Kindle and camera batteries charged and space on the passenger seat for bins, camera and long lens.
