{"id":2209,"date":"2016-11-12T08:56:16","date_gmt":"2016-11-12T11:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/?p=2209"},"modified":"2017-01-05T09:56:11","modified_gmt":"2017-01-05T12:56:11","slug":"trip-through-chile-and-welsh-patagonia-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/archives\/2209","title":{"rendered":"Trip through Chile and [Welsh] Patagonia \u2013 Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Friday 11 November, 2016 : Valdivia\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Puerto Varas<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After a comfortable night in Valdivia we set off on Day 2, on schedule, and completed an itinerary according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/archives\/2189\">plan<\/a>, our\u00a0aim being\u00a0to drive slowly south, ending up in either Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas. We passed through beautiful Chilean countryside, lush green in the most part but with\u00a0large stretches\u00a0also\u00a0in various stages of cultivation (see photo below).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2212\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2212\" class=\"wp-image-2212 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"700\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1-405x300.jpg 405w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2212\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Curiously formed ridges and furrows at the roadside<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Parts of the road were under repair and caused minor delays, but we were in no hurry. On the whole the roads were in good repair, better than many in Argentina, and the repair work is presumably the why.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2213\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2213\" class=\"wp-image-2213 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.eayrs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roadworks encountered around Osorno in a vain attempt to find a way through to the Pacific coast.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We flirted with the idea of taking a peek at the Pacific Ocean, and came off the motorway (Route 5) at Osorno trying to find the U-40. In the end we completed a big circle and ended up where we started, so that was a bit of a failure, but we did see\u00a0some lovely countryside and buildings so all was not lost. Most perplexing, but fortunately we stumbled on a\u00a0<em>carabinero<\/em>\u00a0who was able to\u00a0set\u00a0us\u00a0back on our way. Martin had wanted to drop by to see a friend, Rafaelle, who lives there and runs <em><a href=\"http:\/\/birdschile.com\/about-birds-chile\/who-we-are\/\">BirdsChile<\/a>, <\/em>organisers of next year&#8217;s South American Bird Fair.
