My own branch of the Eayrs family comes from around the border of Lincolnshire and Northants. My current brickwall is George Eayrs, b. abt. 1766 in Castle Bytham, Lincs, England, and married to a Mary Fowler. It is worth noting that in different documents I have found relating to him his surname appears variously as Ayres, Hairs, Hare, Eyre, Eayres and Eayrs.

There are other Eayrs families in the same period and in the same general area, specifically around Bourne (Thomas Eayrs, b. abt. 1773, m. Elizabeth Hopkinson) and Morton (Samuel Eayrs, b. abt 1759, m. Mary Christian), both also in Lincolnshire. These are probably related but I have not yet found a clear connection. (Click here for a map of Lincolnshire that shows these places).

There are also pockets of Eayrs in Bedfordshire (see John Jackson Eayrs, b. abt. 1802, Amprhill), Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, London and the Channel Isles which I have not yet been able to connect to any of the above.

The way forward ..

It is hoped that visitors to this site will help with the development of this site and your suggestions are very welcome.

Other countries

I have information on at least three immigrations into the United States (there are many more); the first via Northern Ireland in the early 18th Century (see William Eayrs, b. England abt. 1670), one from Brigstock, Northampton in 1882 (see here) and a third from Greetham, Rutland in 1849 (see here). Not all this information is currently on the website.

I also know of families that went out to Australia (see here), Canada (see here), New Zealand (see here and here) and South Africa (see here).

Brickwalls

All of us face brickwalls in our research. We list some of these here in the hope that other researchers may help with their demolition.
